Tanner Mullens earns top-5 Spooktacular result
After mother nature thwarted Friday’s scheduled Summit USMTS Jayhawk Classic at Lakeside Speedway in Kansas City, Kansas, Tanner Mullens scored a top-five finish in the Sunflower State on Saturday at 81 Speedway.
The fourth annual Spooktacular brought 29 USMTS entries to the 3/8-mile track in Park City, Kansas, including Mullens’ Mel Hambelton Ford No. 02 Modified. Mullens, a Kansas native, ran into trouble in his heat race and recorded a DNF, then was unable to make the call for the B-Main. However, he used a provisional to start 23rd in the 40-lap, $5,000-to-win feature.
He rocketed through the field in the main event, climbing 18 positions to come home fifth behind Jim Chisholm, Gary Christian, Kale Westover and Dan Ebert.
Mullens is sixth in the Summit USMTS point standings with just four races remaining on the 2024 schedule.
