Super Late Models roll into Kansas City on Friday night as Lakeside Speedway hosts the annual Clyde Ellis Memorial featuring the Lucas Oil MLRA (Midwest Latemodel Racing Association), USRA Stock Cars, USRA B-Mods and E-Mods.

Once referred to as the “Godfather of Kansas City Racing,” Ellis lived and breathed racing and began his career in Late Models in the late fifties before making the switch to race promoting by the mid-sixties when he became manager of Lakeside Speedway. Ellis passed away in 2013 and was among the first inductee class of the CARB Hall of Fame. Friday’s events will honor Ellis’ legacy, dedication, and love for the sport.

Now in its thirtieth anniversary season, MLRA drivers with victories this season include Chris Simpson, Jesse Stovall, Tony Jackson, Jr., Will Vaught, and Chad Simpson. Vaught is a three-time winner but currently sits third in the standings behind point’s leader Chad Simpson and Tony Jackson, Jr. Payton Looney is fifth followed by Mitch McGrath. The last three winners on the MLRA tour at Lakeside Speedway include Logan Martin (2017), J.C. Wyman (2016), and Jesse Stovall (2015). For additional MLRA information, visit www.mlraracing.com. Note, mention of driver name does not guarantee race appearance.

USRA B-Mods, USRA Stock Cars, and E-Mods will join the Late Models for the night of racing as the quest for the season championships roll on in each of the weekly race divisions. Tim Powell shows the way in the B-Mod standings with seven feature wins on the season. Brad Smith, Luke Nieman, Chase Galvan, and Patrick Royalty round out the top five. Four-time main event winner Kevin Anderson leads the USRA Stock Car contingent heading into the weekend with Brett Heeter, David Oxford, Nick Whalen, and Dakota Jennings among the top-five standings.
