The World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series will visit Lakeside Speedway in Kansas City, Kan., again in the fall in 2017, with the date set for Friday, Oct. 20. The date will coincide with the NASCAR weekend at Kansas Speedway, which is less than 10 miles from Lakeside Speedway. The event will mark the eighth consecutive season that the series has competed at the half-mile and 18th time overall, dating back to 1980.

Brad Sweet was victorious this past season at Lakeside, to pick up his first win at the half-mile. Sweet took the lead near the halfway point of the race from Joey Saldana, and then held off his teammate Daryn Pittman in the late going. For Sweet, the win ended a 30-plus race winless drought that had date over three months.

Donny Schatz, the eight-time and defending series champion was victorious at Lakeside Speedway in 2015. That win marked the first for Schatz at the historic venue. Kerry Madsen won at Lakeside Speedway in 2014. Pittman, the 2013 World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series champion, won at Lakeside back in 2003.

The 2016 campaign was another historic one for the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series as Schatz won his third straight championship and eighth overall. In the process, the North Dakota native became the first driver in series history to win 20-plus A-Feature events in four consecutive seasons, finishing the year with 25 A-Feature triumphs.

Schatz continues to add to his ever-growing win total with the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series, which now stands at 229 A-Feature victories. Schatz is third on the all-time list, trailing only Hall of Famers Steve Kinser and Sammy Swindell.

A total of 17 drivers won A-Feature events with the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series in 2016, including full-time series drivers: Pittman, who finished second in points, David Gravel, who was third in the standings, Sweet, who was fourth in points, Saldana, who was fifth in the final tally, Shane Stewart, who was just behind Saldana, along with Knoxville Nationals winner Jason Johnson, who was seventh in points, Logan Schuchart, who was eighth in the standings, Jason Sides, who was ninth and reigning Kevin Gobrecht Rookie of the Year Award winner Greg Wilson.
