It seems like yesterday that the race season was getting underway. Friday night, October 9th, the 2015 regular season will come to an end as Championship Night will be celebrated. Champions will be crowned in all of the weekly racing series classes. The USRA Modifieds, USRA Stock Cars, USRA B Mods and Grand Nationals!

Championship Night at Lakeside Speedway has seen some great races over the years and this year should be no different. A few drivers will be celebrating a great season while receiving their crowns and some drivers will be doing anything they can to win one before the season ends. No matter what you can bet your bottom dollar it will be exciting.

Last Week’s Recap…
Last week’s races set the table for Championship Night and it also set up some epic battles. Kevin Anderson scored his 9th win of the season in the USRA Stock Car division. Aaron Marrant felt so good from his ULMA win 2 weeks ago he followed it up with an impressive win in the USRA Modifieds. Tim Shields knocked down a season high 13th win in the Grand National class. Last week’s big winner was Doug Keller as he roared to the $1,500 win in the Joe Berry B Mod Showdown.

Setting Up This Week’s Races…

USRA Modifieds…

Last week was Aaron Marrant’s night as he led a majority of the feature and won his 2nd USRA Modified feature of the year. Marrant is now 1 of 5 drivers that have won more than 1 feature on the season.

Kerry Davis will be crowned the Lakeside Speedway USRA Modified Track Champion for 2015 on Friday night. Davis is no stranger to championships at Lakeside Speedway and this one will be sweet for the driver from Parkville, MO. On the season Davis has rolled to 7 feature wins and countless top 5’s. The championship will be Davis’ first in the Modified division. A feat that he and his crew chief (and father) Norm Davis, will be happy to enjoy this Friday night’s event.

A driver that came up a little short last week was Darron Fuqua. Fuqua had brake problems all night long and in the feature they got worse. It didn’t stop Fuqua from trying his hardest to get the win. He would come up just short as Marrant got the win, but it proved yet again that Fuqua is a wheel man.

The USRA National Point leader, Terry Schultz, still has yet to win a feature at Lakeside Speedway in 2015. It hasn’t hurt his quest for the USRA Championship, but it wouldn’t certainly help his cause if he could get a win.

Tim Karrick, Kerry Davis, Darron Fuqua and Tad Davis are all Lakeside regulars that are sitting in the top 15 in the USRA National Points.

A full field of 24 cars checked in to battle it out last week at Lakeside Speedway.

A total of 70 different racers have now amassed points in the USRA Modified division.

A total of 11 different feature winners have driven to victory lane in the USRA Modifieds in 2015.

There is one driver to keep an eye on this week and he has earned it. Kerry Davis is the 2015 Track Champ and what a better way to go out on Friday night but with a win in the feature. Davis put together a strong season in 2015 and now he gets to enjoy the fruits of his labor. Keep an eye on the CHAMP Friday night as he could be looking for a curtain call.

USRA Stock Cars…

There is a battle within a battle this Friday night. Sure the championship is in the hands of Brett Heeter, but the quest to be the driver with the most wins still remains deadlocked. Friday night will be the last time for Kevin Anderson and Brett Heeter to break their tie for the driver with the most wins. Each driver has 9 wins on the season but will the tie get broken this Friday night or will it end in a tie?

Brett Heeter has known for weeks that he would be named the Lakeside Speedway USRA Stock Car Track Champion. A 350 point lead going into Friday night has been insurmountable for weeks now. Heeter and his team will get a chance to relax and celebrate Friday night. That is if Heeter isn’t working overtime trying to get win #10 on the year.

Last week was a good 3 car battle at the front of the field in the feature, but in the end Kevin Anderson showed just how tough he was driving to win #9 on the season.

Heeter is currently 3rd in the USRA Stock Car National points, unfortunately for Heeter his nights to race this season are winding down. A win Friday night and a couple of wins during the USRA Nationals might help him in his quest!

57 different drivers have logged laps at Lakeside Speedway in the Stock Car ranks during the 2015 season.

6 different winners have race into victory lane during the current year.

Now you are getting the theme with this week’s drivers to watch, they are all the champions. Heeter has been fast all season long. Last week he started 18th and finished 4th. Number 10 might have come last week if he would have started closer to the front. This week we will see if Heeter has some fight left in him or will he be in celebration mode? We will find out soon. I have a sneaky feeling that Heeter would love to have double digit wins for 2015 and he would like to gain some more wins towards the national standings. Keep an eye on the champ this Friday night.

USRA B Mods…

Wow! That’s all you can say about the wild finish that we saw last week for the 1st ever Joe Berry B Mod Showdown! Doug Keller held off Mike Higley for the big win that was worth $1500! Several lead changes during the last few laps highlighted this awesome feature.

The win was Keller’s first of the season. Keller was the 12th different winner to score a victory on the season.

12 different winners is the most of any class at Lakeside Speedway in 2015.

Ed Noll is the only point leader that still has to compete Friday night to be named the Lakeside Speedway USRA B Mod Track Champion. Although with a 42 point lead, 2nd place Luke Nieman will need a lot of help to overthrow Noll for the Championship. In the highly competitive B Mod division Noll has raced to 4 wins on the season (the most of any B Mod driver to date) and his consistent finishes have put him in the position to close out the championship.

95 different drivers have raced at Lakeside Speedway in the B Mod division. It’s the most drivers of any weekly division at Lakeside in 2015.

For the 2nd straight week there were a total of 45 drivers checked in to race at Lakeside Speedway. Several times this season the B Mod division has had to utilize a B Feature. The last two weeks Lakeside has had to use 2 B Features.

Yes, we know that Noll isn’t the champ yet, but he is awfully close. So close that we are going to call him that, the Champ. All he has to do is show up and finish better than dead last! It shouldn’t be a hard task for Noll. Noll’s season has been a great one. His 4 wins is the most of any driver in the division and he has put together a lot of top 10’s and top 5’s to help put him where he is at. In this ultra competitive class the season that Noll has put together is impressive. My thought’s are that Noll will put one more top finish to round out the regular season.

Grand Nationals…

Tim Shields added another win last week in the Grand Nationals, bringing his win total to 13 on the season. This season has been one of the most dominating performances by a driver at Lakeside Speedway.

Donnie Brown followed up his win from a couple of weeks ago with a runner-up finish last week. Brown is one of several racers that have put together strong seasons in 2015, unfortunately for those drivers Tim Shields is having an unbelievable season.

5 is the total number of different drivers that have won features in the Grand Nationals during 2015.

14 is the total number of different drivers that have raced in the Grand Nationals during 2015.

After 13 wins in the Grand Nationals Tim Shields is very deserving of being called the Lakeside Speedway Grand National Track Champion. The thought process at the beginning of the season was if Shields could win every feature this season. We know now that he couldn’t do it but he did put together a great season. A season that most would be envious of. Friday night keep an eye on this champ as he goes for win #14!
