It was a full night of racing at Lakeside Speedway on Friday night as 103 regular weekly racing series competitors, racing in four different classes, checked in to do battle! Oh, then you throw in the ULMA Late Models and it was a great night of racing for the racers and fans.

Yogi Berra, the famous New York Yankees catcher who passed away earlier this week, once said, “It ain’t over ’til it’s over!”

This might have been something that some drivers thought about while competing Friday night.

In the USRA B-Mod division a whopping 45 drivers checked in to see if they could take home the top prize. Eddie Schwope and Chase Galvan led the field to the green flag.

Right from the start of the feature event it was a duel between Schwope and Andy Bryant, the USRA B-Mod national points leader.Reed Bros. Racing Photos

A host of Lakeside’s finest USRA B-Mods battled it out behind them, but it was the Schwope and Bryant show at the front.

With 10 laps down the stage would be set as Bryant took the top spot. In the top spot Bryant started to put some distance on the Schwope as he kept the lead. Bryant might have got the breathing room he needed or maybe not?

Racing to the white flag Bryant would have about a 10-car-length lead over Schwope. As the two raced into the first corner, lapped traffic showed as they raced down the back stretch. Bryant’s lead was cut in half as they headed into turn 3. As Bryant ran up on a lapped car, the lapped car bobbled and Bryant had to get out of the gas for a split second.

That split second was exactly what Schwope needed as he slipped by Bryant on the low side coming out of turn four and held on to the checkers. The win was his 2nd of the season at Lakeside Speedway.

Bryant would come home a close 2nd after leading a majority of the feature, Colten Stevens put a solid run together having a good finish in 3rd, 4th went to Tim Shields who celebrated his best B Mod Feature finish and Shad Turner raced his way from 8th to finish 5th in the main event.

Heat race winners were Shields, Schwope, Bryant, Stevens and Patrick Royalty. The "B" Features were won by Tyler Lewis and Nick Newton.

The USRA Modified racers had a chance to watch the USRA B-Mod feature and should have paid attention to the thought of giving it your all until you reach the finish.

After an early yellow the field got underway as Darron Fuqua took to the top spot.

A broken brake rotor plagued Fuqua in his heat race and the problem would rear it’s head in the feature. As he led the field he would lose his breaks. A huge problem when racing at Lakeside Speedway.

Fuqua maintained his lead over the second-place runner of Tim Karrick and just behind Karrick was the points leader, Kerry Davis. lapped traffic and more than half of the feature still remained.

At the halfway mark Karrick and Davis put their assault on Fuqua.

Karrick would get the best of it as he would dive under the leader and make the pass heading down the back stretch. Davis suffered problems and couldn’t keep up with leaders.

Karrick established a nice advantage, but lapped traffic and a determined Fuqua provided for a ton of action coming to the finish. Karrick held the top spot as Fuqua stayed right on his back bumper. Fuqua made some runs at Karrick, but was unable to get the job done.

Karrick came out of turn 4 for the last time and took the checkers in front of the appreciative crowd. The win was Karrick’s fourth of the season.

Fuqua finished in the runner-up spot, Davis took one step closer to the championship by finishing third, fourth was USRA Modified national points leader Terry Schultz and rounding out the top 5 was Tad Davis.

Brett Heeter and Kevin Anderson have dominated the USRA Stock Car class in 2015. The two drivers have a total of 16 wins between them and Friday night was another chance for these drivers to display their talents.

During the "A" feature, these two drove away from the field, setting up a duel to the checkers.

Late in the race it looked as if Anderson’s handling was going away as Heeter started to amass a lead over Anderson. Just when you thought it was a walk in the park for Heeter, Anderson found his stride in the final four laps.

As the two came to the white flag, lapped traffic came into play. Anderson looked to make a move in the first turn on Heeter. Unfortunately, Anderson could not keep the run going as he slipped coming out of turn 2. Anderson gave chase the rest of the way but came up just a bit short.

Heeter stayed calm and ran his race all the way to the finish, getting the win. It was his ninth of the season.

Anderson finished second, Nate Barnes raced his way to another top-5 finish in third, fourth went to Gary Donaldson, who is becoming more familiar with his new ride, and Gene Stigall started ninth and raced his way to a fifth-place finish.

Fans who have watched the Grand National division all season long should have known that this night was coming.

Steve Dibben, a feature winner this season, and Donnie Brown brought the field to the checkered flag on Friday night.

At the drop of the green flag it was Brown asserting himself as the leader. All season long Brown has strung together some great runs but just couldn’t get the job done. Was Friday night the night that Brown would get it done?

It was Brown’s best run of the season. He led from the start and held on all the way to the finish. Brown did not see a challenge all race long.

Win number 1 on the season for Brown was an impressive win. He wired the field and won by a large margin.

Brown also become the fifth different Grand National feature winner on the season.

Dibben won a tight battle with Don Marrs to finish second, fourth went to Jim Baker and rounding out the top 5 was Dave Powell.

The ULMA Late Models made their first ever appearance at Lakeside Speedway on Friday night and the race seemed familiar.

Aaron Marrant, a former Modified champ at Lakeside Speedway, dominated the feature from start to finish. The familiar surroundings made Marrant feel comfortable in his temporary ride.

Marrant did not miss a beat all race long as he went on and picked up the $1,000 top prize.

Clint Long raced his way to the runner-up spot, third went to Aaron Poe after winning the spot from the fourth-place finisher, Jason Bodenhammer, and rounding out the top 5 was Tommy Cordray.

Racing action continues next Friday night, Oct. 2, at Lakeside Speedway. For more information log on to Lakeside Speedway’s home on the world wide web…. www.lakesidepeedway.net.
