September 9, 2015

Last week we talked about how the fans of Lakeside Speedway are spoiled with all the great racing they see week after week. The action doesn’t take a break this Friday night as Lakeside Speedway will play host to the Tom Karrick Memorial! That’s right another special. The Tom Karrick Memorial is a special race that is put on by Lakeside Speedway and the Karrick Family. Extra money is usually tacked on to the USRA Modified division. The money will bring in extra racers and so will they in honor of the former racer, Tom Karrick. Many great Karrick Memorial races have packed a ton of great racing moments over the years. This year should be no different.

Last Week’s Recap…
Last week Lakeside Speedway played host to the Lucas Oil MLRA Late Models and it was Jesse Stovall dominating the feature for the win. Tim Karrick got going early in the USRA Modified Feature and went all the way to the finish getting win #3. After running 2nd a week prior in the USRA B Mod Feature, Eddie Schwope got his 1st victory of the season. Kevin Anderson broke his tie with points leader, Brett Heeter, for the most wins in the USRA Stock Car division as Anderson ran away with win #8 on the year.

Setting Up This Week’s Races…

USRA Modifieds…

Tim Karrick jumped out fast and opened up a big lead on the way to win #3 on the season. Karrick looked like the Karrick of old as he won in impressive fashion. With the Tom Karrick Memorial this Friday night, Tim is ready to be at his best.

Finishing in the runner up spot last week was the points leader, Kerry Davis. Davis continues to run strong each and every week. As the season comes down to the final 5 points races of the season, Davis will continue to press on and hope for the title.

Speaking of titles and points. As other race tracks in the area close for the season look for new drivers to show up to Lakeside Speedway. Drivers high in the USRA National Chase could show up to Lakeside looking for a win and better yet, keeping some of Lakeside’s hopefuls from gaining any more points or wins.

Aaron Marrant could be coming on at the right time. Marrant started 14th last week and finished 5th in the A Main. Marrant’s season hasn’t been what he would have liked it to be at Lakeside, but he knows that he can still get the job done.

10 is the number of different winners that have gotten wins in the 2015 season.

55 is the number of different drivers that have raced this season at Lakeside Speedway in the USRA Modified division.

USRA Modified Driver To Watch This Week…

Terry Schultz #90, Sedalia, MO.

There is nothing more to say about this week’s driver to watch other than he is fast. Not only is he fast he comes to Lakeside Speedway trying to gain more wins and keep others from scoring valuable points. Schultz on the season has 10 wins and 30 top 5’s. He is no slouch. Keep an eye on him this Friday night. Extra money and valuable points have this guy salivating as he sits on top of the USRA National Modified Standings. After last week’s run, he might just pop up in the front of the field.

USRA Stock Cars…

Kevin Anderson scored win #8 on the season. Could it be a possibility to see Anderson score double digit victories in this division? Currently he and Brett Heeter are in a tight race to see who will get the most wins in the division. This Friday night is another opportunity.

A former Lakeside Speedway Champ, Marshall Jewett, is starting to come into his own. Last week he motored his way to a 4th place finish. Things could be looking up for Jewett.

Brett Heeter not only leads the track points, but he is currently 6th in the USRA Stock Car National points.

The ‘Hard Charger’ from last week was Tom Fogarty. Fogarty began the main event in 14th but by the finish he had rolled into 5th. It’s been a promising season for Fogarty.

47 is the number of different drivers that have raced at Lakeside this season in the USRA Stock Car division.

Marshall Jewett #7, Gardner, KS.

Marshall Jewett is a former track champion in this division. He hasn’t raced all season long in the class and he isn’t worried about the points. Jewett is wanting to get into victory lane, just like every racer at Lakeside Speedway! Last week showed the Jewett can put it in the top 5. Is last week’s showing something that could give him the confidence to move forward or build on last week’s finish? We think it can and it makes Jewett the driver to watch this week. See if he doesn’t climb higher in the top 5.

USRA B Mods…

It was just a couple of races ago when Eddie Schwope finished runner up in the USRA B Mod Feature. Last week he went and did one better, Schwope pulled off the win. His 1st win of the season couldn’t have come at a better time. It gives Schwope some momentum heading down the final 5 events. Not only was it a win, but it was an impressive win.

Ed Noll didn’t have the race he would have liked to have a week ago, but it didn’t hurt his championship hopes. Noll holds a commanding lead over Luke Nieman with 5 points races left on the season. Noll is also 10th in the USRA National Points.

Last year’s track champion and USRA National Champion, Chad Clancy, looked like the Clancy of old. Clancy started 15th in the main event and drove all the way up to 3rd at the checkered flag.

A few other racers in the top 10 also had impressive runs. Shad Turner, Gene Claxton and Lance Lincoln all started the main event outside of the top 15 and by the end of the feature they were all in the top 10.

10 is the number of different drivers that have raced their way into victory lane in the USRA B Mod division at Lakeside Speedway in 2015.

81 is the number of different drivers that have raced at Lakeside Speedway in the USRA B Mod division at Lakeside Speedway. It’s the most of any division at Lakeside this season.

USRA B Mod Driver To Watch This Week…

Doug Keller. Reed Bros. Racing Photos

Doug Keller. Reed Bros. Racing Photos

Doug Keller #77, Easton, MO.

Doug Keller is a top notch race car driver. Over the span of his career, Keller has driven a wide variety of hot rods. Recently he has found a home in the B Mod division. Last week Keller battled Eddie Schwope for several laps, he even led some laps. In the end it wasn’t his night as he would finish 2nd. If we have learned anything from the previous weeks at Lakeside running 2nd one week a win might be around the corner. Keller is a fast racer and has a strong car. Last week’s run might be the shot in the arm he needs to move to victory lane.

Grand Nationals…

The Grand National division was off last week and the drivers are looking forward to getting back behind the wheel this Friday night.

Tim Shields still has a strangle hold on the point standings. Shields with his 12 wins has a 234 point lead over Marshall Jewett.

Grand National Driver To Watch This Week…

Steven Dibben #69, Smithville, MO.

Steven Dibben is 1 of only 4 different drivers that have won features this season. Dibben is the last driver other than Shields to reach victory lane. It’s a possibility this weekend he might do it again. Dibben is a veteran of the Grand National division and he has won many races over the years, it should come as no surprise that he is capable of winning. Dibben’s history is why we are wanting to make him the driver to watch this Friday night. It’s our bet that Dibben might be a surprise at the end of the night.
