Lakeside Speedway celebrated another great night of racing last Friday night. This week the action will remain fast and furious as the weekly racing series continues Friday night, August 14th. The first green flag will fly promptly at 7:30 p.m. An added bonus this week will feature the Midwest Outlaw Vintage Racers adding to the Friday night content. It’s shaping up to be a great night.

Last Week’s Recap…
Another first time winner showed up in the USRA B Mod division, Chase Austin. Austin held off the previous week’s feature winner, Gene Claxton, to pick up the win. Kerry Davis dominated the USRA Modified class once again as he roared to win #7 on the season. The points leader in the USRA Stock Car class, Brett Heeter, showed the fans why he is #1 while he picked up win #5 on the season. Steve Dibben became only the 4th different winner on the season in the Grand National division.

Setting Up This Week’s Races…

USRA Modifieds…

Kerry Davis continues his dream season for yet another week. Win #7 was another impressive win for Davis. He sprinted to the front of the field on the opening lap and was gone. Davis now has a triple digit lead over 2nd place Tim Karrick in the points.

Nic Bidinger and Tim Karrick put up a good battle between them last week. Bidinger finished 2nd after starting 6th, Karrick finished 3rd after starting 8th.

Next week, Aug 21st, the USMTS Modifieds will be back at Lakeside Speedway. This week you might see a few new faces show up to possibly get a night of testing and tuning at the track.

Luke Driskell #39, Stilwell, KS.

Luke Driskell is a driver that hasn’t made every single race this season. In years past Driskell has found his way to victory lane, but this year it has been as successful for Driskell. I think Driskell might have something left in the tank before the year comes to a close. With the USMTS looking next week, this would be a good week to get things going. Don’t be surprised if Driskell finishes in the top 5.

USRA Stock Cars…

Brett Heeter is on a roll this season and last week’s win #5 should be proof. If not look at all the top 5 finishes and it should point to the fact that Heeter is #1 in the point standings. A third title could be a few weeks away for Heeter if he continues on this path.

This class again has provided the most excitement this season. Each week the USRA Stock Car division puts on a great show. Several battles are evident across the speedway and the action is always at it’s best.

A whopping total of 42 drivers have amassed points in the USRA Stock Car division this season.

Nate Barnes #29, Kearney, MO.

Nate Barnes has been our driver to watch before. He is fast. Last week’s 3rd place finish would verify that stat. Barnes is still waiting to join the list of winners in 2015. I believe he will get it done this year. Something tells me that this week could be his night. As good fortune hit him earlier this week, it’s just possible that it could happen again Friday night.

USRA B Mods…

It was a great battle between Gene Claxton and Chase Austin last week. Austin would get the better of Claxton and roll to his 1st win of the season. Claxton for the 2nd straight week was a prominent factor in the main event.

Austin becomes the 9th different feature winner on the season in the B Mods.

Ed Noll finished in the top 5 again last week. His points lead is now 63 as he closes in on his 1st championship at Lakeside Speedway since the track returned to dirt in 2000.

63 different drivers have raced and amassed points in the USRA B Mod division.

Last week Lance Lincoln from Topeka, KS put on a strong run getting his best finish of the season in 5th after starting 9th.

Sam Schuler Jr., #44, Kansas City, KS.

A driver that can certainly qualify for the ‘Most Improved’ driver could be Sam Schuler Jr. Schuler has been in the top 5 several times this season and he currently sits 5th in the points. Schuler’s team has gotten with the program and his driving style, with more laps, continues to show improvement. All of these things factor in Schuler’s turnaround. Watch this week and see if Schuler can’t get into the top spot.

Grand Nationals…

For only the 3rd time this season, Tim Shields, didn’t end up in victory lane last week. Lets don’t downplay the winning effort of Steven Dibben. With the exception of the first lap Dibben was never challenged on his way to the win.

Nick Newton logged another runner up finish again last week. We are going to have to pull the numbers, but it might be safe to say that Newton has had more 2nd place finishes than any driver in any division all season long.

Speaking of consistent finishes Donnie Brown finished inside the top 5 for yet another week. Brown is celebrating a good year and is tied with Dave Powell for 3rd in the standings.

There have been 4 different winners this season in the Grand National class.

Tim Shields #42T, Kansas City, MO.

We will stay with the theme that we have stuck with all season long. Tim Shields is our driver to watch this week for the simple fact that we want to see how he responds after not winning. Each of the 2 times it’s happened this season, Shields has rebounded to win the next week. Will that trend continue this week, we will find out tomorrow night.
