Kansas City, KS – A pair of first time winners highlighted another great race night at Lakeside Speedway on Friday night. It was also a night that 2 drivers continued their domination of the race season!

The entire 2015 season in the Grand National division has been dominated by Tim Shields. Shields, heading into Friday night, had won 11 features on the season. The way his season has gone #12 should have been on the way.

Shields would have to wait on his next win as another driver turned in a dominating performance, Steven Dibben.

The opening lap saw Dibben shoot out into the lead. His only scary moment of the night was a slight wiggle coming out of turn 4 on the opening lap. This lap would be the only time the competition would be that close to Dibben.

Dibben hit every mark that he needed to hit, kept his car straight and never bobbled all night long on the way to his 1st win of 2015.

A good 3 car battle behind him for 2nd between Nick Newton, Tim Shields and Don Marrs, allowed Dibben to extend his lead lap after lap.

With the win Dibben becomes the 4th different feature winner of the season in the Grand Nationals.

Newton would hold on for 2nd, Shields raced his way to a 3rd place finish, 4th went to a hard charging Donnie Brown and Marrs rounded out the top 5.

The Grand National Heat Race Winner was Marrs.

Chase Austin brought the USRA B Mod field to the green flag for it’s feature.

The first 4 laps were all Austin at the front of the board until a couple of consecutive yellows halted the race and forced a restart.

On the 2nd restart Austin received some pressure from Gene Claxton, last week’s winner, who would take over the top spot from Austin.

The lead would be short one for Claxton as Austin would ride the high line back to the front of the pack. Ed Noll, the current points leader, also joined the battle at the front of the pack.

As the race progressed it was a tale of two lines on the track. Austin the high line and Claxton the low line. In the end it would be the high line and the momentum it carried taking Austin to his 1st win of the season.

Not only was it Austin’s first win, but it also meant that 9 different drivers have won features in the B Mod class. The most of any division at Lakeside.

Claxton would hold on for the runner-up spot, the points leader, Ed Noll, would finish 3rd and put a strangle hold on the points, 4th went to Sam Schuler Jr. and Lance Lincoln marched from 9th to finish 5th.

USRA B Mod Heat Race Winners were Austin, Schuler and Don Marrs.

A class that has provided Fireworks all year long has been the USRA Stock Cars and Friday night they wouldn’t disappoint the crowd in attendance.

Two heavy weights would start off at the front of the main event, Brett Heeter and Kevin Anderson. The 2 drivers combined have won more than 10 features on the season. It would set up a good showdown.

As the green flag waved Heeter jumped out to the advantage and would extend a good sized lead until the first yellow of the night came out.

On the restart Anderson would start to apply some pressure.

A 2nd yellow and restart would see the top 5 cars get a little more vested in the battle up front. At least for the time being. Heeter and Anderson would break away from the pack, until another yellow would set up another restart.

On this restart Anderson would take the lead from Heeter, but he would drift high coming out of turn 4 and it allowed Heeter to drive under him and retake command of the feature.

Heeter, a master at the dry slick track, would fend off Anderson’s last couple of charges and take the win on the night. The win was #5 on the season for Heeter and it put him one step closer to his chance at a 3rd championship.

Anderson would finish a close 2nd, Nate Barned put together another top 5 finish in 3rd, 4th was Bobby Tavis III who started in 8th and 5th would go to Clint Hedge.

USRA Stock Car Heat Race Winners were Heeter and Anderson.

Kerry Davis has probably seen a few craps tables in his lifetime. Every now and then you might catch him at one of the local casinos having some fun. Friday night Davis was looking for Lucky #7! Entering the night Davis had 6 wins and a strong lead in the points. Number 7 would solidify his chances for the track championship.

Davis started on the pole next to Luke Driskell at the beginning of the feature. At the end of the lap 1 Davis rolled his 7.

Lap 1 would be the closest chance the competition would have of seeing Davis as lap after lap he extended his lead until he took the checkers almost a half a lap ahead of the 2nd place car of Nic Bidinger.

Behind Davis there were some great battles on the speedway.

Bidinger, the defending 2x track champ, drove from 6th to finish 2nd, Tim Karrick would finish 3rd after starting 8th on the grid, Justin Johnson finished 4th and Aaron Marrant finished in the 5th spot.

Next Friday night, August 14th, will see more awesome USRA action as the gates open at 5 p.m., hot laps will be at 6:45 p.m. and the first race goes green at 7:30 p.m.

Adult tickets are $12, kids 7 to 12 are $6, children under 6 are FREE and military personnel, students and seniors get in for $10 with proper I.D.
