All cars in all divisions took to the El Paso Speedway Park in a moving tribute to Joshua Jackson, the NMMRA driver seriously injured in a race three weeks ago at the Southern New Mexico Speedway. With the help of faith, family, friends and fans—not to mention some really dedicated doctors and medical staff—Josh is steadily recovering from his extensive injuries and we hope and expect to see him at a racetrack again soon. As we all know, medical insurance only covers a percentage of costs, so please continue to do what you can to help defray some of the expenses.

Lakeside Speedway put another 2015 race night in the books last Friday night. It seems like yesterday that the race season got underway. Starting this Friday night, July 31st, there will only be 9 points races left before Championship Night on October 9th! The action should ramp up this Friday night at 7:30 p.m. when the green flag flies, because it’s now make or break time for anyone on the outside looking in.

Last Week’s Recap…
Last week a new face rolled into victory lane at Lakeside Speedway. Aaron Marrant has been waiting all year to knock down a win in the USRA Modified division and last Friday night was his night. Ed Noll put another win in the books and put a firm grasp on the points in the USRA B Mods. Kevin Anderson strolled to a late race win in the USRA Stock Cars. In the Grand National division it was Tim Shields once again reclaiming the top spot as he got win #10 on the season.

Setting Up This Week’s Races…

USRA Modifieds…

The Modified division used to be a class where you knew who had a chance to win before each week’s feature. This season that isn’t so. After Aaron Marrant won last week, it marked the 9th different winner to win a Modified Feature this season at Lakeside. With the exception of Kerry Davis and his 5 wins on the season, only Tim Karrick has won more than one feature on the season.

Currently Modified driver, Tim Karrick sits inside the top 5 in USRA National Modified Points!

Kerry Davis might not have won last week, but he did put another runner-up finish on the board. As we head down the stretch Davis has a 73 point lead over Karrick in the points.

The USRA National Points Leader raced at Lakeside Speedway last Friday night. Terry Schultz brought home a 4th place finish.

Last week USRA B Mod racer, Mike Higley, gave it a go in the Modified class. His night was productive but it he didn’t get the finish he wanted. Contact and mechanical issues plagued Higley in the feature and he would finish 15th.

Lewis Jackson #3J, Wellsville, KS.

Lewis Jackson is still have a strong 2015 season. It’s not for the fact that he is winning on a consistent basis, but how about the fact he is in the top 10 just about every night out and he is sitting 5th in the point standings. He has even missed a few weeks. Jackson even ranks 12th in the National USRA Points. A great season to say the least. Each year Jackson has worked on making his program better and this year his hard work is paying off. Last week’s driver to watch ended up winning the feature! Can Jackson make it 2 weeks in a row?

USRA Stock Cars…

Kevin Anderson, once again, flexed his muscle. Win #6 came last Friday night, but it wasn’t easy. Anderson didn’t take the lead till late and some hard luck hit the drivers at the front before Anderson took control.

Anderson now has the 2nd most wins of any driver at Lakeside Speedway in 2015 with 6. Tim Shields is on top with 10.

The Hard Luck and the Hard Charger go to the same driver, Jason Ryun. Last week Ryun found himself out in front of the field, but he lost it in turn 4 and that dropped him deep in the field. It wouldn’t take him long before he ran his way back up to finish in the runner-up spot.

A 15th place finish in the feature couldn’t hurt the leader in the points standings, Brett Heeter. Heeter had one of his worst finishes of the year but he has done so well leading up to last night that he still has a large lead in the standings.

Looking at the USRA Stock Car National Points the highest Lakeside racer is Thomas Roberts. Currently Roberts is sitting in 5th in the National Standings.

Jason Ryun #267, Kansas City, MO.

Jason Ryun was out of the game at the start of the 2015 season. He didn’t have a car and planned on just watching the show every Friday night. That all changed when his current car owner, Christopher Smith, decided to give him the chance to drive. Being a fill in driver hasn’t been a bad thing for Ryun. He has a win already this season and look for more out of him down the stretch. If anyone wanted to find a driver that has had success in the past, they couldn’t go wrong with turning the keys over to Ryun. Keep an eye on him this week after watching last week’s run he is bound and determined to get back into victory lane.

USRA B-Mods…

If there is a driver that it showing how strong he is this season and that’s Ed Noll. Noll stormed to win #4 after battling Andy Bryant and Brad Smith. It put more of a cushion in the point standings for the track championship. Noll now has a 39 point lead over Luke Nieman.

Bryant, Smith, Shadren Turner and Noll are 1st, 3rd, 10th & 12th respectively in the USRA B Mod National Point Standings.

Last week’s feature was one of the most entertaining features of the night and one of the best of the season. Position battles were tight all over the speedway and the action at the front of the field was stellar. The competition level continues to get stronger each week.

61 different drivers have amassed a point total in 2015 at Lakeside Speedway. This is the most of any class for the season.

Terry Bivins #5B, Lebo, KS.

What can you say about Terry Bivins? He is a good ole boy that just loves racing. He has been at it for decade, after decade, after decade. You can always find Terry near his wife in the pit area and they will both have a smile on their face. It’s where they like to be and it feels like home to them. Terry has been to the top of the sport (Nascar) and he has been on the grass roots level. Outside of making a million bucks, Bivins loves his local racing. This season has been a struggle, but the veteran always finds a way to get it done. Watch him this Friday night, after last week’s 9th place finish, Bivins might be movin on up!

Grand Nationals…

It took all of one week for Tim Shields to climb back to the top of the Grand National division. Shields roared to win #10 on the season, it’s the most of any driver in any division at Lakeside Speedway in 2015.

Shields double digit win helped him add more cushion to his points lead. Shields holds down a 178 point advantage over Marshall Jewett.

Both of the other winners this season, Nick Newton and Don Marrs suffered problems last week finishing 6th and 7th in the feature.

Donnie Brown #26, Lancaster, KS.

Donnie Brown has been a mainstay in the Grand National division. This season has been a good one for Brown as he sits 4th in the points. It’s hard for anyone to gauge just how good their season is when Shields is on the pace he is, but Brown can hold his head up high. He races clean, he promotes the sport and he likes what he does. This are a few qualities that other racers should try to emulate. This week keep an eye on Brown. He is due for a solid run and this week just might be it.
