The fans of Lakeside Speedway enjoyed a night full of racing followed by a fireworks extravaganza. On the track there was just as much action as the fireworks that followed.

In the USRA Stock Car Feature event one driver, Brett Heeter, is starting to show that he is the ‘Alpha Male’ of the bunch. Heeter raced his way to another win on Friday night. It was his 2nd straight and 4th win of the season.

Starting from the 2nd row outside position it didn’t take Heeter long to blast past the competition and take the top spot. At the front of the pack he ran away with win #4.

At this point and time Heeter has taken command of the Stock Car points by opening up a 41 point lead on the competition. It was just a few weeks ago that he was only 6 points up on Jim Powell Jr. If Heeter’s season remains this way it could be possible that he would achieve a 3 peat.

The racing action behind Heeter was impressive too. Jeff Elder continues his strong runs at Lakeside with a runner-up finish, racing his way up from 10th to take 3rd was Jim Powell Jr., 4th went to Nate Barnes and completing the top 5 was Tom Fogarty.

USRA Heat Race Winners were Heeter and Kevin Anderson.

Luke Nieman and Ed Noll brought the USRA B Mod Feature to the green flag on Friday night. It wouldn’t be the last time these two were together. Neither one would get away from the other as they mixed it up all night long at the front of the pack.

Noll, the current points leader, would take the upper hand in the race and put his B Mod out in front of the field.

Nieman, who is currently 2nd in the points, gave chase but would have his hands full fending off Brad Smith and Chad Clancy.

Meanwhile back at the front the points leader, Noll, put together a solid performance and scored his 3rd win of the season. The win ties Noll with Smith for the most wins in the class on the season.

Nieman would win the battle for 2nd, 3rd would go to Smith, Clancy held down 4th and Andy Bryant scored the 5th place spot at the finish.

USRA Heat Race Winners were Noll, Nieman & Clancy.

The USRA Modified Feature almost sent the fireworks off a little sooner than expected on Friday night.

Tim Setzer and Kerry Davis led the field to start the A Main. Davis, the current points leader and 3x feature winner, jammed out to the lead as he has done many times before this year. Unfortunately, it wouldn’t be an easy ride to the finish.

Nic Bidinger would make his way to the front and battle Davis to the end.

As the two mixed it up, the laps would click off and set up a showdown at the finish.

Coming to the checkered flag Bidinger would get in hard chasing Davis and spin out, ending his hopes at the win. The outcome would also take Bidinger out of the top 5, which would be a blow since he is chasing his 3rd straight title. After such a great race it was a tough way to end it.

Davis was the winner, getting his 4th victory of the year (most in the class), 2nd would go to Karrick, Jared Steins would finish 3rd, 4th was Mark Schafman and rounding out the top 5 was Lance Town.

USRA Modified Heat Race Winners were Bidinger and Steins.

The Grand National main event saw a good race that looked familiar or at least had a familiar winner.

It was a week ago that Tim Shields was knocked off the top of his perch for the first time all season. Nick Newton drove to the win.

All season long Shields has dominated this division until that point.

Friday night Shields jumped back out to the lead starting from outside the front row. As it has been during most of his wins, Shields would run away from the competition. This night would not be like those nights.

Newton has finally figured something out in the ride that he pilots for Bill Ruisinger. Newton started out the night with a heat race win and looked to double up in the feature.

Throughout the feature the two drivers battled it out at the top of the board. At the stripe it would be Shields edging out Newton by about 1/2 a car length. Shields would race his way to win #9 on the season, but he was pushed all night long by Newton.

Newton finished 2nd to Shields, Donnie Brown raced his way to a 3rd place finish, 4th was Steven Dibben and Nick Drew brought home a top 5 in 5th.

The Grand National Heat Race Winner was Newton.

Friday night, July 10th, the spectator gates will open up at 5 p.m., hot laps will be at 6:45 p.m. and the first race goes green at 7:30 p.m.

Adult tickets are $12, kids 7 to 12 are $6, children under 6 are FREE and military personnel, students and seniors get in for $10 with proper I.D.
