Brown, Clauson among invaders set to battle World of Outlaws at Lakeside

A strong field is being assembled as O’Reilly Auto Parts Presents the Outlaws at Lakeside on Wednesday, July 1 at Lakeside Speedway in Kansas City. The full contingent of Outlaws regulars will in attendance, led by six-time and defending series champion Donny Schatz. Along with the 13 full-time drivers that follow the series, some of the best from the Midwest will be on hand, including Brian Brown and Bryan Clauson.

Brown, who hails from nearby Grain Valley, Missouri, scored his first career World of Outlaws win last fall during the World Finals in Charlotte, and has already picked up a win with the series this season. The veteran drive, who has raced at Lakeside Speedway a number of times over the years, has one World of Outlaws victory already to his credit this season, with that coming in Arizona back in March.

Clauson, who competed in his second-career Indianapolis 500 this season, has made the transition to racing winged sprint cars this year. The native of Noblesville, Indiana earned his first top-10 finish with the World of Outlaws last month at Kokomo Speedway in his home state, finishing ninth. Clauson has been in attendance at nine World of Outlaws events thus far in 2015.

Full-time World of Outlaws drivers that are set for battle at Lakeside Speedway include Schatz, Shane Stewart, who is currently second in points with three wins, Brad Sweet, who drivers for Kasey Kahne Racing, Australian Kerry Madsen, who now calls Iowa home and Joey Saldana, who scored his first win of the season a few weeks ago in his home state of Indiana.

Jason Johnson, the leading contender for the Kevin Gobrecht Rookie of the Year Award with the World of Outlaws, will make his first start since he was injured in a crash in California on April 5. Prior to that, the five-time American Sprint Car Series (ASCS) champion had a streak of four straight top-10 finishes going.

Daryn Pittman, the 2013 World of Outlaws champion, who drives for Kasey Kahne Racing won at Lakeside in 2002 with the World of Outlaws. Also in action on Wednesday, July 1 will be veterans Paul McMahan, Jason Sides and Kraig Kinser, as well as young guns David Gravel, Logan Schuchart and Jacob Allen.

Tickets for O’Reilly Auto Parts Presents the Outlaws at Lakeside on Wednesday, July 1, can be purchased at the track on raceday. Very few tickets remain, so get your tickets as soon as possible.

All tickets purchased in advance for the originally scheduled race that was set for June 6 will be honored on July 1.

Fans can also take advantage of the O’Reilly Auto Parts $5 off special and receive $5 off when purchasing a general admission ticket at participating local O’Reilly Auto Parts stores. The ticket buyer will exchange their O’Reilly receipt for a ticket at the main grandstand ticket booth on race day.

Pits open at 2 p.m., spectator gates open at 4, hot laps start at 6:30, time trials begin at 6:30 and racing starts at 7:30.
