A warm Sunday night welcomed race fans to Lakeside Speedway for a special night of racing. Rain early morning on Friday night forced Lakeside Speedway officials to reschedule for Sunday night. Big Ed Beckley and the weekly racing series at Lakeside Speedway put on one whale of a show.

Kerry Davis has been on a roll in the USRA Modified division. Heading into Sunday night, Davis had won 3 features on the season. No other driver in the division this season has won multiple features.

At the start of the main event it was 2x defending champ, Nic Bidinger, jumping out to the point position. A caution near the 1/2 point would bunch the field up and Davis, who started 5th, was ready to battle for the top spot. As the green flag dropped to restart the race Davis got by Bidinger for the top spot.

Unfortunately for Davis, he had company coming with him to the front of the pack. Tim Karrick, who also has a win on the year, stayed right on the back bumper of the leader.

With 3 laps remaining in the feature the action on the track began to heat up. Karrick and Davis decided to mix it up during this time. Back and forth the two would swap the top spot with Davis the leader coming to the white flag.

Karrick still wouldn’t go away and on the final lap he would make his move and get the better of Davis and take the late race win.

Davis finished a close 2nd, Bidinger raced his way to a 3rd place finish, 4th went to Darron Fuqua and rounding out the top 5 was Lance Town.

USRA Modified Heat Race Winners were Karrick and Davis.

Sooner or later Tim Shields streak of consecutive feature wins in the Grand Nationals would come to an end. Sunday night at Lakeside Speedway was that time.

Shields spun early in the feature and had to go to the tail of the field. Not a bad break for Shields considering he has been having such an awesome 2015. It wouldn’t have been a bad break if Nick Newton didn’t look so good on this night.

Newton got to the front of the field from the beginning and he wouldn’t give up the lead.

Shields did a masterful job getting through the field but he didn’t have enough in the tank to take down Newton.

Newton hit all of his marks lap after lap and made it look easy driving to win #1 on the season.

Shields still garnered a respectable runner up finish, Marshall Jewett raced to 3rd, 4th went to Nick Drew and Dave Powell got the 5th position.

The Grand National Heat Race Win went to Shields.

It was a great feature event in the USRA B Mod main event.

Everyone has been waiting for Gene Claxton to pull off his 1st win of the 2015 season. Claxton has been a winner in whatever he drives and this season he has been working hard but coming up just short.

Several racers put forth a great effort on Sunday night. Luke Nieman was the first driver to take his car to the front of the field. Nieman started on the front row with Don Marrs and got out to the quick start.

Claxton would work his way past Nieman for the lead. Ed Noll was also in the running but would fall to trouble later in the feature. Claxton appeared to be on his way. That was until Shadren Turner kept quietly working his way to the front of the pack.

Tuner has had an up and down season so far. The youngster at one point was points leader, but a couple of bad weeks put him back down the ladder. Sunday night Turner was reminding the fans and competitors that he may be young, but he is talented to. Late in the race Turner made his move on Claxton and sprinted to his 1st win of the season.

Claxton would settle for 2nd, 3rd went to Nieman, Nick Newton, fresh off his Grand National win, drove from 8th to 4th and Marrs rounded out the top 5.

USRA B Mod Heat Race Winners were Turner, Nieman and Marrs.

Heading into Sunday night’s races, Brett Heeter held a 6 point lead in the USRA Stock Car division. Two wins and several top 5 finishes have put Heeter in the top spot, but as we all know this is a tough class to race in.

Brent Alverson would lead early as he had done a few weeks ago. Alverson couldn’t keep it up as he would give up the top spot.

Several drivers were having a good run during the feature, but it was Heeter moving to the front. In the toughest division Heeter has been the most consistent driver and it showed again Sunday night.

John O’Neal Jr., Lucas Conely, Dean Hensler and Bobby Tavis III were all mixing it up trying to run down Heeter. From top to bottom positions were being battled for all over the speedway.

In the end nobody would catch up to Heeter as he would go on to win his 3rd feature of the season. It was not only his 3rd win but it also helped him expand his lead in the points as he looks to win another title.

O’Neal finished 2nd, after winning last week, 3rd went to Conely, Hensler started 10th and finished 4th and Tavis would come home 5th after starting the feature 11th.

USRA Stock Car Heat Race Winners were Heeter, Conley and O’Neal.

Big Ed Beckley, the world’s largest motorcycle dare devil, wowed the crowd in attendance as he made his jump over 14 vehicles on the front straight. It was well worth the price of admission.
