May 28, 2015

As most race tracks are still feeling the sting of Mother Nature, Lakeside Speedway once again got another show in the on the 2015 season. Racers and fans, alike, will be looking to get back to racing action this Friday night for another weekly battle.

Friday night, May 29th, at 7:30 p.m. the green flag will fly and the weekly racing at the Home of Dirt Track Racing in Kansas City; Lakeside Speedway.

The USRA Modifieds, USRA Stock Cars, USRA B Mods and Grand Nationals will once again slug it out looking to gain the upper hand in the run to a championship!

Last Week’s Recap…

Another week of beating out Mother Nature resulted in another night of great competition amongst racers at Lakeside Speedway. Josh Everhart scored his first win at Lakeside Speedway in the USRA Modified division. Brett Heeter showed some dominance in winning the USRA Stock Car Feature. After a few weeks of getting things sorted out in the USRA B Mod Feature Chad Clancy put it all together and got the win. In the Grand National division it was the same as it has been all season with Tim Shields getting the win.

Setting Up This Week’s Races…

USRA Modifieds…

Kerry Davis was staring down the barrel of win number 3 on the season last Friday night. We know that he came up just short as Josh Everhart got by for the win after a late restart. Davis has nothing to hang his head about. He finished 3rd and has opened up a 30 point lead over Tim Karrick in the USRA Modified Point Standings.

The Modified division has been one of the most competitive this season. In just 7 races there have been 6 different winners on the year. Kerry Davis is the only one to win more than 1 feature. That means, if this trend stays the norm, you have an 86% chance of seeing another new feature winner on Friday night.

Three Peat Watch! If you are watching the exploits of the reigning 2x defending track champ, Nic Bidinger, you will see that he has climbed up the rankings and now sits in 3rd 40 points out of the top spot. It’s going to take some work, but this driver could be up to it.

A shout out for a driver having a strong season and a candidate for the most improved driver is Lewis Jackson. Jackson has been having a solid season so far and is currently 6th in the point standings.

Another question is when will Darron Fuqua pick up a win this season? Fuqua has visited victory lane quite a few times in the past but has yet to get there in 2015. Fans know that he has it in him, but when will he put it together. He could add to that stat line this weekend of different winners.

Josh Everhart #21J, Osage City, KS.

Everhart is feeling good about making his home at Lakeside Speedway 2 races ago. Everhart has enjoyed some success this season also gaining a win at Humboldt Speedway and after last week, Lakeside Speedway. The 2015 season has been a good one so far. Everhart has made it to Lakeside in previous years, but he never found much success. So far in 2 races this season he has a win and a 4th, not too bad. Eyes will be on Everhart this Friday night to see if he can keep it together.

USRA Stock Cars…

Brett Heeter made a statement last week with his win. He is the defending champ and is looking just as strong as ever. He will need to keep it up to keep pace with Jim Powell Jr. Powell leads the early part of the standings by 25 markers.

Speaking of Powell. Was it a surprise when he debuted a new hot rod last weekend? He has been running strong with his first car and some would say that you don’t mess with success. If you know Mr. Powell you know he is always looking for anything to make him faster and he took a chance at getting it done with a new ride. A runner-up finish isn’t a bad first night out!

Each year it seems the technology advances big time in the USRA Stock Car division. This year it looks as if new body styles are becoming more and more popular. These cars are the closest things to resemble street cars on the track and older models are coming hard to come by and they don’t provide the aerodynamic positives that the newer designs do. Keep looking for more newer looking cars on the track.

Eight features have been run this season in the Stock Car division and Lakeside has seen 5 different winners in victory lane. That means that race fans have a 63% chance of seeing another new winner this Friday night. Great odds!

USRA Stock Car Driver To Watch This Week…

Justin Seifert #37, Kansas City, KS.

Seifert is a driver that is capable of winning on any given night. He has won, many times, in the past. This year it has been a slow start for Seifert. Unfortunately for Seifert he has not found victory lane this season, but it could be unfortunate for the competition too. Everyone knows that Seifert won’t stay down for long. Last Friday night he rolled to a 4th place finish. There is nobody that is expecting more out of his racing performance than Seifert. Watch this week and see if he continues to build on last week’s top 5. Could a win be possible this week?

USRA B-Mods…

Chad Clancy has been on a 180 degree turn from where he was at last year. It seems like he was winning on a nightly basis and running away to the USRA National Championship. This year he is in a new Rage Chassis and teaming with Prime Racing Products, Clancy has been taking it slow this season providing feedback and getting feedback. He debuted a new wrap last Friday night and it looked like the Clancy of old taking the win. He could have gained some MOmentum!

Good battle at the top of the points standings between Eddie Schwope and Shad Turner. Turner was the early leader in the standings and he had a bad week and it gave the top spot to Schwope, but a strong run for Turner last week has put the youngster in a tie for the top spot. Both drivers have been running strong this year and don’t look for them to slow down. I will go out on a limb and say both should find victory lane before the season is up and it’s a fun battle watching them up front.

After missing week 1, Brad Smith and his 3 wins have put him only 2 points out of the top spot. Ed Noll is also right there with only 5 points separating him and the #1 spot. These 2 racers could play a part in the race for the championship.

Seven races in on the 2015 season and we have seen only 4 different winners. That’s still providing a new winner 57% of the time. Still good odds. Brad Smith has won 3 of the 7 already this year.

USRA B-Mod Driver To Watch This Week…

Eddie Schwope #91, St. Joe, MO.

It has been done in the past. A driver wins a track championship without ever having won a single feature on the season! It’s an impressive feat because that means that a driver has to finish consistently in the top half of the field all season long. Eddie Schwope still has time to get a win on the season, but he has finished up front enough to have a share of the points lead early this season. Right now Schwope shares the top spot with Shadren Turner. This class contains so much competition that Schwope will need to win a race or two throughout the season. Could this be the week for win #1.

Grand Nationals…

Tim Shields is mowing down the competition week after week. Last week was win #6 out of 6 races. Shields is dominating the season to this point. Can he keep it up or will another driver step up to the plate. We ask this question every week. Some where the competition will step it up.

Donnie Brown has celebrated a good season. Right now he is 2nd in points and the driver to watch this week. Brown has the equipment to end up in victory lane. The question is can he get it done?

Grand National Driver To Watch This Week…

Donnie Brown #26, Lancaster, KS.

Again goes another week for someone in the Grand National division to knock Tim Shields off the top spot. This week we are wanting people to keep an eye on Donnie Brown. Brown has the car that is capable of getting the job done. The years of experience that he has should also give him a boost in the confidence category. If there is a driver that is up to the task, it could be Brown. Last week it was a 3rd place finish for Brown, could this week be #1?
