Yogi Berra once said, "It ain’t over till it’s over!"

Friday night at Lakeside Speedway in the USRA Modified feature it looked as if it was over or at least everyone thought so.

Kerry Davis, the current points leader and two-time feature winner, took the top spot from the start of the race and held on to it for 18 laps. Davis appeared to be in command and on his way to win #3 of the season. A late race yellow on lap 18 would change the complexion of this race in a bad way for Davis. A green, white checkered finish would bring the feature to a close.

As the green flagged waved on the restart Davis ran back out to the front, but Josh Everhart was in hot pursuit. Everhart came to Lakeside a couple of weeks ago for his 1st time this season and had a strong run. Tonight he proved it was no fluke as he was in a position to win on his 2nd night of the season.

Everhart would make a late race move on Davis and took the lead late. Davis would try and battle back but couldn’t get the job done. Everhart would take home his 1st USRA Modified Feature win at Lakeside Speedway.

Mark Schafman put another strong run together to get by Davis late in the race to finish 2nd, 3rd went to the points leader, Davis, 4th was Nic Bidinger and Tim Karrick raced his way from 10th to 5th.

USRA Modified Heat Race Winners were Darron Fuqua, Schafman and Everhart.

The USRA Stock Car Feature packed a lot of action in a short amount of time! It was another great race for this highly competitive class.

Jim Powell Jr. came into the night with the points lead in the division and tonight he brought with him a new car. A bold move considering that his old car seemed to be getting the job done. Powell’s new ride wasn’t too bad either.

For the first 6 laps of the main event Powell held down the top spot. Unfortunately for Powell, Brett Heeter was back on his A game tonight too.

After winning on opening night and some solid runs, Heeter has been off his game for awhile. He would got back on the winning track tonight.

Heeter worked on Powell and was able to get by working lap 7 and after taking the top spot he was gone. Heeter would go the rest of the way to the checkers picking up win #2 on the season.

Powell finished 2nd and maintained the points lead, 3rd went to Thomas Roberts, 4th was Justin Seifert and rounding out the top 5 was Bobby Tavis III.

USRA Stock Car Heat Race Winners were Tavis and Roberts.

Chad Clancy had an unbelievable run last year in the USRA B Mod division. A run that saw him win more than 20 features on the season and it ended up with two track championships and a national championship. A move to a new chassis and a limited schedule in 2015 has hindered Clancy from repeating last year’s run. Heading into Friday night’s race, Clancy had yet to get into victory lane.

Sporting a new wrap Clancy came out of the gate strong winning the 2nd heat of the night and after the redraw he would start inside of row number 2 to begin the A Main. His luck was starting to turn.

In the A Main Clancy worked his way to the front of the back. During the main event Clancy would get some pressure from Andy Bryant. Fromer points leader, Shad Turner, would also march up to the front of the pack. The action in the field was hotly contested.

Clancy wouldn’t be denied on this night as he would sprint to the checkers first. It was his 1st win of 2015 and it couldn’t have come at a better time. After missing a race early due to work, Clancy will be a long shot to repeat as the champ but who knows?

Bryant finished 2nd, 3rd went to Turner, 3x feature winner, Brad Smith, finished in the 4th spot and coming home in 5th was 2x feature winner, Ed Noll.

A whopping 35 B Mods checked into race Friday night.

USRA Heat Race Winners were Clancy, Turner, Bryant, Randal Schiffelbein Jr. and Eddie Schwope.

For the 6th time this season Tim Shields charged to the front of the Grand National Feature to pick up the win.

Shields started outside the 2nd row and quickly took the top spot. From there it was a repeat of the first 5 races of the season with Shields running away to the win.

Don Marrs came home in the runner-up spot, 3rd went to Donnie Brown, Marshall Jewett brought home another top 5 finish in 4th and rounding out the top 5 was Dave Powell.

Racing action continues next Friday night, May 29th, 2015.

The spectator gates will open up at 5 p.m., hot laps will be at 6:45 p.m. and the first race goes green at 7:30 p.m.

Adult tickets are $12, kids 7 to 12 are $6, children under 6 are FREE and military personnel, students and seniors get in for $10 with proper I.D.
