Kansas City, KS – August 9, 2013 – The current USRA, A-Modified, National Points Leader, Terry Schultz, did something he thought he would never do: Win at Lakeside Speedway. The Sedalia, MO speedster started seventh and needed until lap-24 to be able to shoot to the high side of Nic Bidinger to take the lead. Bidinger gave chase and remained close but would have to settle for second. Mark Shafman and Tim Karrick battled race-long for position and would finish third and fourth, respectively. Mason Big Eagle, hailing from Saskatchewan, Canada, was the highest finishing USMTS regular in the field coming across the start/finish line in fifth.
Brett Heeter continued to flex his Factory Stock muscle as he has now won three of the last four features. Early on in the race, Joe Smith, Jr and Heeter, freight trained their way through the field starting outside rows three and four. Smith would be the early race leader but would only be able to hold the spot for the first five laps before Heeter would motor around him. Smith would hold on for second edging out Bobby Tavis, who was a lead contended the entire race as well. Nate Barnes and Marshall Jewett battled hard to round out the top-five.
Six lead changes in 15 laps of racing could best describe the USRA B-Modified feature. KC, KS’s, Sam Schuler, lead the first lap, defending B-Mod champion, Nick Newton, led laps 2 – 6 and lap 9, Brad Smith, looking for his 101st career feature win, led laps 7-8 and lap 10. When the dust settled it was current point leader, Aaron Marrant, who after leading from lap 11 marked his second feature celebration of the season in the class. Newton would challenge to the end but finish second, Chad Clancy finished third ahead of Chad Feature, who started 13th, and Smith rounded out the top-five.
The Grand National feature started off with a quick caution and then went green, white checkered. At the end it was Don Marrs picking up his second feature win of the season. Donnie Brown beat Gary Donaldson for second while Jim Baker and Marshall Jewett rounded out the top-five.
