Kansas City, KS – Friday, May 24, 2013 – Darron Fuqua had to run hard to win the USRA A-Mod, caution-free, feature tonight. It took the Mayetta, KS driver ten laps to go from his row-5 starting spot to the lead, motoring around initial leaders Chris Spieker and Mark Shafman on the way up front. Once there he had to stay on the gas as Tyler Schmidt and Dustin Boney were meticulously picking off competitors, lap after lap, from their last row starting spots, eventually finishing second and fourth, respectively. Schafman would finish third while Tim Karrick would round out the top five.

The Grand National feature also went green, white, checkered as Tim Shields backed up last week’s win with another one tonight. Starting outside row-one, Shields would take command of the race early and never look back. Marshall Jewett gave chase but could not find the speed necessary to overtake Shields and would settle for second ahead of Steve Dibben. Gary Donaldson worked his way from 10th to finish fourth while Donnie Brown rounded out the top five.

Terry Bruner’s early lead in the USRA B-Mod feature was short lived as Aaron Marrant was able to hit the gaps just right and motor from fifth to first by lap two. He would never look back on his way to his second career B-Mod feature win. The best battle came down to the wire as, Brad Smith, starting 12th, overtook Bruner for second as the checkers flew. Chad Clancy and Gene Claxton rounded out the top-five in the caution-free event.

The Factory Stock feature set the tone for the night’s feature events with a race that ended with the top five together as the race ended. Marshall Jewett was the third driver to lead the race and had there been one more lap he may not have won the event. Brett Heeter was dead-set on winning his third in four weeks but came up a bumper short of achieving that goal. Nate Barnes and Philip Holcomb finished right behind the leaders in third and fourth, respectively while Sean Foster made a last turn pass to finish in the top five.

“Racing on the River’s Edge” continues every Friday night through October with the USRA A-Modifieds, Grand Nationals, USRA B-Modifieds and Factory Stocks.  Gates open at 5:00pm, hot laps at 6:45pm, and the first race gets under way at 7:30pm.  Adult ticket prices are $12.00, kids 7-12 $6.00, and children 6 and younger admitted FREE. Senior Citizen’s and military personnel with ID are admitted for $10.
