Grand Nationals kicked off the exciting racing action at Lakeside Speedway as Tim Shields #42t would visit victory lane for the fourth time in this 2014 season. Shields would use the low side to pass the early race leader Donnie Brown #26, who would fade to place third, and hold off the late race challenge of second place finisher #711x of Nick Newton. Great racing continued throughout the entire pack as the previous week’s feature winner Gary Donaldson #28d would hold off the always fast #6 of Marshall Jewett, as they would finish fourth and fifth respectively.
In an action packed USRA B-Mod feature the lead would change numerous times before the checkers were shown. With a great late race maneuver Mike Higley #11 would use his ford horsepower and the high line on the track to claim the night’s top spot. With an always great gesture all kids who visited his pits after the race would receive a trophy of their own. Early leader Yancy Shepard #20y would race side by side with a fast Brad Smith #99, with Shepard using the low line and Smith on the high side, Shepard would edge Smith at the line to place second leaving Smith third. Doug Keller #7k would challenge for the lead early only to fade to fourth in the late stages, with the always smooth Chad Clancy #21c rounding out the top five.
USRA Stock Cars as always were in fine form taking to the half mile of dirt and putting on a show of epic proportions. Throwing a blanket over the top ten drivers at any time during the race and not knowing the winner until the last turn of the last lap, we would witness Justin Seifert #37 pick up the victory. Seifert was challeneged every turn of every lap by the second place finisher Brett Heeter #05. Early race leader Marshall Jewett #7 would slip one time and lose two spots and be forced to settle for third. With a great run from the back of the pack toward the front Joe Smith Jr. would put the purple #56 machine to a solid fourth place finish. Dean Hensler #8 was the big mover of the night coming from deep in the pack to finish in fifth.
USRA Modifieds displayed one of the best features of the year as Terry Schultz #90 would wheel his way past the fast Kerry Davis #68 on his way to victory lane. Davis would use the low line to challenge Schultz every lap while holding off the high side flyer of Tim Karrick #1k. Davis would finish in second with Karrick in third. Last year’s track champion Nic Bidinger would charge through the pack to challenge the three front runners only to run out of laps and place fourth. One of the fastest cars of the night was #59 of Jared Steins coming from a rear starting position to race his way into the fifth finishing spot.
Lakeside Speedway would like to give a special thanks to all of the kids who participated in the “Foot Races” down the front straight. All kids would receive a winners ribbon as they all were winners. We would like to thank our fans for braving the elements to enjoy a great night of racing activities. We invite everyone back next Friday night for more “Racing by the River” at Lakeside Speedway.
See you next week.
